When offered to review this product, I had to jump. Being involved with makeup and skin for as long as I have, I’m always up for trying something new. Growing up, I never really had to deal with acne (good genes!)… I really only got breakouts at typical times- right before/after my period, and if I forgot to take off makeup (or used something that aggravated my sensitive/ almost Rosacea skin).
Now, crossing the threshold of my 30s, I’m noticing a little more breakouts here and there. Luckily, those breakouts are pretty much immediate pustules that I get rid of with warm compresses (don’t pick ladies- especially with aging skin!). But I’d like something I can apply and, hopefully, would work quickly.
When opening the product, I immediately smelled the tea tree oil and Witch Hazel. To some, this may can be a little strong, especially if you’re sensitive to smells. (And a little note: When opening, think lip gloss wand… I was trying to pull the cap off, like a roller ball. ALMOST made a mess.) The day I received my product, coincidentally, I had two spots on either side of my nose (my breakout “zone”) that were developing. Typically, these two spots would develop “heads” in a few days and I’d be rid of them.
I dabbed the product, which is more a tonic than a gel or cream, on the spots, and waited for the burning. It never came! The best I can describe is a strong tingly feeling for a few moments, which is typical of any astringent- however, it should never burn. And I do have to explain- most “acne” treatments will start burning my skin immediately after application. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! The strong smell faded within 5 minutes, even being centimeters from my nasal passages. The tingling faded in about 20.
Day two the spots were already visibly smaller, I reapplied, moisturized and slept. Still no irritation. Today, day 3, spots are gone! There was a little bit of a flake where the spots were, which came off with cleansing my face- therefore I’d recommend using this once a day- best at night- right before you moisturize. Also, a very teeny dot of product will do you well- you do not need to saturate your skin. Literally touch the applicator to the spot and move on. And don’t worry about cross contaminating areas of the face. The tea tree (antiseptic) in the product takes care of that.
I figured that since this product is supposed to purify, and it does have quite a bit of witch hazel in it, I tried it on my nose and chin- two areas that I have ample blackheads. They did not get rid of them, and I wasn’t surprised- an esthetician told me that people with blackheads cannot get rid of them- they can only shrink and fade them so they’re not so obvious. This product did just that. I still had the little buggers, but I had to look REAL close to find them.
Living in Florida, we have PLENTY of Benadryl, Neosporin or other topical anti-itch creams on hand from March to November. Chances are, if you spend more than 30 seconds outside with no bug spray on, you will get bit. My son, as fair complected as he is, bug bites show up instantaneously. I put some of the blemish stick on there (they advertise any skin irritation), and 1- “no itchies” per my 2 year old, and 2- the swelling went down and the bite was gone in a matter of 12 hours. I applied once he got the bite, and then again before he went to bed. Gone the next morning.
All in all, I love this product. And it should do my Karma good to use it- all of Tisserand’s products are cruelty free (no animal testing), 100% pure, 95% or better Organic, and wild crafted or ethically harvested. And according to the Tisserand website, they have been doing so since 1985- way before the world was on the green bandwagon.
The Tisserand Anti-Blemish stick is available for purchase at ULTA and Ulta.com.
