Laundry is one of—if not the—household chore I dread the most. I’ve got a nine-year-old and a thirteen-year-old boy, and doing their laundry (not to mention my husband’s), isn’t the most pleasant job in the house –sorry guys! Anything that cuts down on the time I spend dealing with their dirty clothes is worth a second look.
I recently received a new kind of laundry detergent in the mail called “Dropps.” It looked to me kind of like the gel packs you use in your dishwasher. You toss them in the washing machine, turn it on, and that’s it. They’re pre-measured, and you use one or two, depending on the size of the laundry load.
Here’s what I like about Dropps:
They’re convenient. Since the amount of detergent is pre-measured, you drop them in the machine with no mess and no measuring. There are no more laundry detergent bottles with sticky soap running down the sides sitting on your laundry room shelves.
You use the right amount of laundry detergent every time. I know I use too much liquid detergent. If you look at where the lines are in the measuring cap of your laundry soap bottle, you’ll see that even for large loads, you shouldn’t be filling the cap up to the top. I admit that I often do though without even thinking.
Dropps could save you money. I will admit I haven’t done the math, but because I am guilty of using too much laundry detergent, I expect switching to Dropps will save me money, since I can’t overuse it.
And, if you have a spouse or especially children doing laundry, you don’t have to worry that they will use too much detergent with such an easy-to-use product.
Finally, Dropps are environmentally friendly. Dropps are super-concentrated and come in small, lightweight packaging. They still do the same job, of course, but you can forget buying those big plastic jugs of detergent. This is better for the environment in terms of resources used to produce the packaging and in terms of resources used to ship these heavy bottles across the country to our stores.
The bottom line? I don’t know the retail price of Dropps, and I haven’t seen Dropps in my local stores yet, but assuming they are reasonably-priced, I would say they are definitely worth a try. I would even say they are worth a little more than traditional detergents. Why? Because they should last you longer if you’re anything like me and don’t measure your liquid detergents precisely. Convenience and time saved is definitely worth something as well.
